Biography, Sista Donnalee

My given and original name Donnalee was given by my mother. My motherís second name is Adonna and the Lee comes from my fatherís name, Leo. Born and grew up on the island of Aruba, Caribbean, together with my 3 older sisters.

At the age of 7 years I used to play and listen to a lot of old records from my parentís collection, such as Minnie Repelton, ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole, Sergio Mendes etc. I used to make my own dances and sing and perform for my Mom and sisters. So, I always wanted to be an entertainer.

When I was age 16 I came to Holland.I went to college and in the meantime, I started buying a lot of Reggae music and started to go to Reggae concerts. I started to write my own songs and began playing at Soundsystems. Soon after I started to go on the mic and sang and toasted my own and adapted songs.

In 1983 I organized a DJ Mommy style dance event in Amsterdam with other sisters. I also performed in Leiden with a good friend and well known and great artist, Jack Radics.

In 1985 I got my first son and decided to stop performing to livicte (dedicate) my time to the family. Of course at home I kept on playing Reggae music and enjoying the company of my four youths. I have 2 sons and 2 dawtas.

In 1997 I started presenting a Reggae program at Q Radio in Zutphen, Holland.

Today I present two Reggae shows at Radio Razo Amsterdam "Letís Be Irie".  Wednesday mornings from 06.00 till 10.00h and on Saturday evenings from 16.00 till 19.00h on 103.8 cable or 105.2 ether or on the internet

I DJ at Reggae Parties and events in and around Amsterdam, check my agenda for more details.
